Detroit Public Schools now serving Lentils and Rice, Samboosas to follow, Burgers being evaluated
A favorite of Foodscapes customers, Lentils and Rice is now in distribution in Detroit Public Schools through US Food Service. Our success in Detroit followed on the heels of distribution in Detroit suburbs through Van Eerden Distribution last autumn.
Lentils and Rice was tested at Cass Tech, part of Detroit Public Schools, in School Year 15/16 and scored >90% favorability in a three-question survey asking students to not only vote whether they thought the product was good or bad, but also whether they would eat it for lunch, and if they would recommend it to their friends.
The initial sampling showcased the Lentils and Rice nestled in a mini-tostada, resembling a taco salad, burrito, or similar application. Chef Kevin Frank felt the product was satisfactory as a stand-alone, and is serving the lentils in a bowl with cheese sprinkled atop, while the students are using corn chips to scoop the lentils into their hungry mouths. Lentils and Rice was very well-received upon the first menuing, and we look forward to continued menu placement at Detroit Public.
